Canco Pacs

Canco Pacs are AB Canco’s monthly septic treatment additives and are a part of a solid septic maintenance program.

So what exactly are Canco Pacs?

In short, they contain the helpful bacteria necessary for proper septic function.  Your septic tank is actually a constant biological reaction.  Your tank does a number of things including providing time and space for the separation of solids and wastewater but its also allows for the reduction and decomposition of those same accumulated solids.  The reduction and decomposition is preformed by the bacteria.  The living, breathing bacteria consume many of the solids in the tank resulting in gasification.  So having bacteria in the tank is both beneficial and necessary.  And no worries, the bacteria are safe and non pathogenic.

In a simple, closed system all the necessary bacteria would actually come from … well, you.  The same bacteria found in our digestive systems acts as the catalyst to create and populate more bacteria in the tank.  Unfortunately if you ingested the same stuff we put in our septic tanks you’d probably be dead.

Household detergents, drain cleaners, bleach, etc. can all upset the normal reproduction cycle of bacteria.  And if the tank is not constantly reproducing and generating new bacteria, sludge and scum levels can increase which could contribute to field failure.   Canco Pac’s help ensure bacteria levels in the tank are where they should be.

Septic additives often get a bad rap as they are often oversold with claims such as “Never Pump Again” or “Guaranteed to Restore failed Drain Fields” etc.  None of this is true.  Our Canco Pacs provide some of the most robust and strongest concentrations of bacteria you can buy, but they aren’t a silver bullet designed to cure all of nature’s problems nor do they give you the license to abuse your system.  You still need to pump, you still need to watch how you use your system.  Canco Pac’s are a part of well-balanced septic maintenance program.

• Don’t impact or replace regular septic pumping.
